TAKA Stopped Operations – Other Ribbon Reef Options

Please note Deep Sea Divers Den’s boat TAKA, will cease providing its ‘Ribbon Reef Explorer’ trips, as of 25 December 2015.

Why? You’d have to contact the operator direct for specific details, but we believe the boat has been sold and will be moving its home port offshore to an international destination.

The good news! There are still Cairns Cod Hole liveaboard dive tours operating each and every week. So even though TAKA might not be running their ‘Ribbon Reef Explorer’ trips, you can still book a berth to see these amazing, remote dive locations you’ve heard so much about.

So, where did TAKA go on its Ribbon Reef Explorer trips? As the name suggests, they went to the Ribbon Reefs. TAKA ran two liveaboard dive trips, a 3 day / 3 night and a 4 day / 4 night option. The shorter trip visited Cairns’ Outer Reefs and southern Ribbon Reefs, while the 4 day option included the world famous Cod Hole.

The Ribbon Reef Explorer trips were a relative new comer to the Ribbon Reef liveaboard dive trip market. TAKA ran these trips for nearly two (2) years. The other options for Ribbon Reef liveaboard diving are with experienced operators, Spirit of Freedom and Mike Ball Dive Expeditions, which have been visiting these sites for more than 20 years. Let’s take a closer look at your options.

Ribbon Reef Liveaboard Dive Trips incl Cod Hole

Spirit of Freedom runs a 3 day / 3 night Ribbon Reefs trip, which includes the Cod Hole. This trip departs Cairns at 12pm on a Monday and returns 11.30am on the Thursday and includes up to 11 dives. It’s suitable for divers of all experience levels and snorkelers are welcome, although this is primarily a dive boat. Cabins range from quad share to ocean view deluxe. The service is amazing and the diving is mind blowing. This fully inclusive trip includes a low-level scenic flight over the Great Barrier Reef. More.

Mike Ball Dive Expeditions runs a 4 day / 3 night Fly Dive Cod Hole trip, which includes up to 12 dives on the Ribbon Reefs including the Cod Hole. This trip departs Cairns at 7am on a Monday and returns at 8am Thursday and includes a low-level scenic flight to Lizard Island. Suitable for divers of all experience levels, Mike Ball Dive Expeditions does allow solo diving (if qualified) and unlimited dive time with an open dive deck policy. Cabins range from budget to premium. Staff are highly qualified and diving is amazing. More.
