We called it golden week. A bunch of weather with just 5 knots of wind, light sea breeze, and no rain. Just blue skies and sunshine with no clouds what so ever! Sometimes the weather just takes a break and for us here at Cairns Dive Adventures it is our time to dive! Today we…
Dreamtime Dive and Snorkel is a brand-new reef day tour that departs from the Cairns Reef Fleet Terminal with a twist. The boat itself is brand new and perfectly laid out as a dive and snorkel vessel. Very easy to get in and out of the water with many levels to relax and enjoy the…
Being the middle of JUNE normally the weather should be bold blue skies, sunshine and light sea breezes. Unfortunately, this was not the case the day we choose to dive on Silversonic Dive and Snorkel who operate from Port Douglas, the weather was terrible. Surface conditions where rough, the wind was pushing 25 knots, it…
This truly is some of the very best scuba diving in Australia. The 4-Day/4-Night liveaboard dive trip with Spirit of Freedom is just spectacular. The sun gods prevailed and we were blessed with 5/10 knots of wind with blue skies and sunshine! Its dive time! The Coral Sea & Bougainville Reef offers spectacular diving.
Fantastic full day diving on the Great Barrier Reef. The ultimate trip for those that want to see as much of the Great Barrier Reef as you can in one day! The only boat in Cairns to visit 3 sites.
Great destination for in and out of water experiences. Dive and snorkel tour options available on the island. Hike and swim. Turtle rehabilitation centre.
Green Island is part of the Great Barrier Reef. It is the closest Great Barrier Reef Island to Cairns with only a 40-minute boat ride.
Sunlover is a great reef day trip to Moore Reef. Suitable for families (of all ages) and guests that want to mix it up with a range of diving and non-diving activities.
Just spectacular! Some of the best diving I have ever done! The shark feed is a real eye-opener and some of my best photos and video from the trip. The crew is fantastic with wonderful chef-prepared meals.
Family reef trip review from Cairns, with Reef Magic Cruises. This is an awesome day out with the kids. There’s lots of inclusions and activities and plenty of things to keep the whole family happy. Highlights will include meeting ‘Wally’ (the big blue fish) and being amazed at the colourful, coral gardens.
Tusa Dive is the best Great Barrier Reef day dive trip operator in Cairns and rainy days on the Great Barrier Reef can be awesome! So don’t let the weather get you down, book a berth on T6 for an amazing day on Cairns’ Outer Great Barrier Reef.
As a new boat, Evolution is equipped with brand new snorkel and dive equipment. The vessel has three (3) levels, including two (2) air-conditioned interiors, providing plenty of space for guests to spread out and relax. At Cairns Dive Adventures we take our task of providing accurate tour advice and information seriously, so we headed out to spend the day on Evolution on Saturday 27 February 2016. This is our review of the day, trip and boat.
Reef Quest is the newest addition to the Deep Sea Divers Den fleet, commencing Cairns Great Barrier Reef day tour operations in December 2015. This brand new boat is fully equipped with the latest dive and snorkel equipment and provides guests with up to five (5) hours at the reef and the chance to do three (3) scuba dives and snorkelling.
This is our diving day tour operator of choice from Cairns. It’s a dedicated dive boat (but snorkelers are well catered too as well) and one of the few to offer certified divers the choice between guided and unguided dives. This is great for experienced divers and those wanting to dive together and get some great underwater photographs. The boat and its equipment are well maintained, the Skipper and crew friendly and professional: nothing bad to say here. A great day on the Great Barrier Reef with a great operator.
Reef Encounter is a boutique floating hotel on Cairns’ Great Barrier Reef. Certified divers can take up to six (6) certified dives on an overnight trip, with plenty of time to snorkel and enjoy the amenities on Reef Encounter, which includes the spa and air-conditioned lounge with TV and library. This trip is suitable for scuba divers and snorkelers with seven water sessions during the trip. The friendly crew will go out of their way to make you feel welcome and ensure you have the very best stay and experience on the Great Barrier Reef.
For families with babies, toddlers and younger children, this is the only liveaboard option for spending a night on Cairns’ Great Barrier Reef. As well as being your only option, it’s an excellent option! The rooms are spacious enough to comfortably accommodate the port-a-cots and there are high chairs available in the dining room (ask at time of booking please). You’ll appreciate the ensuite shower and toilet facilities and the air-conditioned interior is a comfortable temperature for the little ones. They have fridges and microwaves on board to help out with cleaning bottles etc. The crew are very welcoming and helpful. An overnight trip gives Mum and Dad plenty of time to dive and snorkel, taking turns to watch the baby. An awesome family trip to the reef!
This is undoubtedly one of Cairns’ best diving day tours to the Great Barrier Reef. The crew are friendly, professional and importantly, helpful. The equipment is well maintained and yours for the day. The boat is spacious and comfortable, providing all the features you need to enjoy the day (including freshwater showers) and the reef sites were amazing. There was plenty of time to enjoy the Great Barrier Reef, as well as just relax and soak up the ambience of the day. Even though the boat was at full capacity we never felt rushed or crowded and on speaking with other guests, everyone had a wonderful day.
This is a great reef tour for people of all ages and abilities that are staying in Port Douglas. There’s lots of inclusions and activities (underwater observatory, semi-submersible tours, fish feeding and snorkelling) meaning swimmers, non-swimmers and scuba divers (diving is an optional extra) will all enjoy the day. The Quicksilver boat is large and comfortable, the pontoon is spacious and covered and the adjacent reef is good for snorkelers and divers. This is the only pontoon trip from Port Douglas.
Poseidon offers a tidy day tour operation from Port Douglas to the Agincourt Ribbon Reefs, on the Great Barrier Reef. The three (3) reef sites offer a variety of things to see and do and this trip would suit confident swimmers / snorkelers and certified divers, who will certainly appreciate the spacious dive deck and large tanks. If you choose to do the three (3) dives then there isn’t much time for snorkeling, or relaxing with any non-diving companions, so a good idea to take this trip if everyone in your party is a diver (or all non-divers). The crew is professional and friendly and the boat comfortable.
This is a great value for money trip that is suitable for snorkelers and divers. The complimentary introductory dive (no experience needed) lasts 20-minutes while certified divers will enjoy the one (1) free cert dive, which is guided or unguided, with the option to book a second dive to maximise their experience. The BBQ breakfast and lunch is a nice touch, as is the complimentary cold drink (wine or fruit juice) at the end of the day. The reef sites were first class and the crew friendly and professional. A great day out from Cairns.
Green Island is a great reef day tour option for the family, especially those with young children and toddlers. Its sandy beaches slope gently into the sea and there are lots of shady trees. Several boats visit the island, but you must book Great Adventures to take advantage of the resort’s day facilities, including the freshwater pool.
Certified divers, who also happen to be parents, will see the very best of the Great Barrier Reef by taking a dive boat day tour.? Although these are not usually recommended by operators (who will suggest an island or pontoon trip as the way to go), we think if your baby is not yet crawling…
Reef Teach is a two-hour, educational presentation providing a fantastic insight into the Great Barrier Reef, its inhabitants and the evolution and survival of one of the seven wonders of the world. Did I mention it’s also fun and engaging?? A great way to learn about the reef and why it’s so special.
Can you take a baby to Green Island? Yes you can and do so with confidence, as no doubt you will be one of many families enjoying this Great Barrier Reef island escape.? We took our 6.5 month old baby boy over to Green Island and spent the night at the resort.? This allowed plenty…
Helmet diving is a great option for non-divers and swimmers to be able to spend time under the sea, getting up close and personal with the fish. Is it better than an introductory scuba dive? There’s no right or wrong answer here. To do an introductory scuba dive, you do need to know how to swim, as you will be swimming around the reef, albeit accompanied by a scuba instructor. Helmet divers walk on an underwater pathway underneath the pontoon. Both experiences are very different. For more information on this, please visit the Cairns Helmet Diving page on our site
The passengers on board today’s Reef Magic trip were aged between 5-months and 72 years old. Everyone had a great time! Which just goes to show the versatility of the Reef Magic Great Barrier Reef day tour. Some people stayed dry and saw the reef through the glass-bottom boat, semi-submersible and underwater observatory, others got wet and went snorkelling, scuba diving and helmet diving. The catamaran was comfortable, the staff friendly and all in all, this is a great way for baby to visit the Great Barrier Reef
Mike Ball Dive Expeditions offers fabulous liveaboard dive trips to the Ribbon Reefs (including Cod Hole) and Coral Sea. These trips are suited to all levels of divers, but experienced divers will really appreciate the option of diving solo, longer and deeper than other trips. Spoilsport has an excellent floor plan for divers and a spacious dive deck with good facilities for underwater photographers. Overall, a class operation guaranteed to please.
Silversonic is a quality reef tour that takes guests to exceptional dive and snorkel locations. The trip is a great option for divers looking to experience the Ribbon Reefs with a guide. The crew are friendly and helpful and are all about making your day that little bit better. As one of the premium reef tours from Port Douglas, this trip is worth every extra cent.
Tusa Dive is undoubtedly one of the premium day dive operations in Cairns. The boat is modern and the staff friendly, efficient and professional. The diving and snorkelling is fantastic with great dive sites. For the certified diver, you can really see the company has a diving background and really takes care of the certified divers on board. That being said, all of the snorkelers and introductory divers had a fantastic day out on the reef as well. All in all, this was a memorable and magnificent day tour to Cairns’ Great Barrier Reef.
Fitzroy Island is a continental island 30km offshore from Cairns. Access is via a comfortable 45-minute boat transfer and accommodation is available at the 4.5 star Fitzroy Island Resort. The island has tropical vegetation, a mixture of rainforest, mangroves and open woodlands and the coral beaches have fringing reefs and bommies. Guests can snorkel and…
