Silversonic Snorkel Special: Save 15% on an Agincourt Reef Adventure

The best reef special is not always about finding the cheapest reef trip!

Sometimes the best value comes from getting more of what you travelled all this way to experience: more time in the water, more reef environments and more opportunity for the crew to choose the right locations for the conditions.

That is what makes the new Silversonic snorkel special genuinely exciting.

For a limited time, snorkellers can save 15% off the recommended retail price on Silversonic’s full-day Great Barrier Reef cruise from Port Douglas. The adult snorkelling fare is reduced from $328 to $278.80, for bookings and travel between 27 August and 25 September 2026.

This is not a discount on a basic trip. Silversonic is one of the standout outer-reef experiences available from Port Douglas—and a very strong option for visitors staying in Cairns who are happy to travel north for a different part of the Great Barrier Reef.

Important: The 15% special applies to snorkelling passengers only. Certified and introductory diving are not discounted.

The real challenge is choosing the right reef experience

For many visitors, planning a Great Barrier Reef day can feel surprisingly complicated. There are islands, pontoons, sand cays, day boats, diving trips and snorkelling cruises. Every option promises beautiful coral and marine life, but the actual experience can be very different.

The important questions are not simply, “Which boat is cheapest?” or “Which tour has the best brochure?”

They are:

  • Where does the trip actually go?
  • How many reef locations will you experience?
  • How much of the day will you spend at the reef?
  • Can the crew adjust the itinerary to suit the conditions?
  • Is the experience right for your confidence and swimming ability?

Silversonic answers those questions particularly well for adventurous and confident snorkellers.

One day, three different Agincourt Ribbon Reef sites

Silversonic departs Port Douglas and travels to the renowned Agincourt Ribbon Reefs, on the outer edge of the Great Barrier Reef.

These are not simply three moorings beside one fixed platform. Silversonic has access to more than 35 permitted Agincourt reef locations, with the experienced crew selecting three sites each day according to the weather, visibility and underwater conditions.

That flexibility matters.

A reef can look completely different from one location to the next. One site may offer shallow coral gardens filled with small tropical fish. Another may reveal dramatic bommies, reef walls, giant clams, anemonefish, turtles or cruising reef sharks. By visiting three separate environments, you see more of the reef’s scale and diversity in a single day.

It also means the itinerary is not rigidly tied to one location when another site may offer a better experience that day.

Less time wondering, more time experiencing the reef

Silversonic is a modern, 29-metre high-speed catamaran designed specifically for outer-reef snorkelling and diving. It departs Port Douglas at approximately 8:30 am, returns at around 4:30 pm, and provides up to five hours at the reef across the three locations.

For many travellers, this is the transformation they are really looking for: going from comparing reef tours on a screen to floating above living coral on the outer Great Barrier Reef.

The day is structured, but it does not feel like you are confined to a single experience. Snorkel briefings are provided at each site, a guided snorkel tour is included, and lifeguard snorkel officers supervise the water. Between sessions, guests can relax in the air-conditioned interior or on the sundecks.

Morning tea, afternoon tea and a hot-and-cold tropical buffet lunch are also included. The vessel has change rooms, hot freshwater showers, a large rear water-access platform and modern ride-control technology for a smoother journey.

Why Silversonic is worth considering from both Port Douglas and Cairns

For guests staying in Port Douglas, Silversonic is especially convenient. The boat departs directly from the Port Douglas marina, and transfers from Port Douglas accommodation are included.

Visitors staying in Cairns can also join the trip using optional return coach transfers (Extra Cost). It makes for a longer overall day, but the reward is access to the Agincourt Ribbon Reef system—a different outer-reef region from the reefs normally visited by Cairns-based day boats.

This is why we do not believe there is one universal “best” reef tour for everyone. A family with very young children, a nervous first-time swimmer and a confident snorkeller looking for multiple outer-reef sites may each be better suited to a different trip.

Silversonic is best suited to people who want an active reef day, are comfortable in open water and value visiting several distinct reef environments. Flotation equipment is available, but nervous or inexperienced swimmers should speak with us before booking so we can help compare the alternatives.

A major upgrade behind the experience

Silversonic returned to Port Douglas in late 2025 following an extensive $1.66 million refit and engine upgrade. The work included new-generation engines, mechanical upgrades and improvements designed to support performance, efficiency and reliability.

The refit matters because the vessel is not merely transport. On an outer-reef day, the boat shapes how comfortably and efficiently you move between Port Douglas and three offshore reef sites. A fast vessel allows more of the day to be spent where it counts: at the Great Barrier Reef.

Silversonic also holds one of the limited permits that may allow guests to swim with dwarf minke whales if they are encountered during the seasonal period. Encounters are entirely natural and never guaranteed, but the permit is another example of the special reef access associated with this operation.

Who should take advantage of this special?

This offer is particularly appealing if you:

  • are a confident snorkeller who wants a genuine outer-reef adventure;
  • want to visit three different reef sites rather than remain at one location;
  • are staying in Port Douglas or are comfortable travelling from Cairns;
  • value maximum reef time and site selection based on the day’s conditions; or
  • have been comparing premium reef trips and were waiting for the right opportunity.

The discounted adult snorkelling fare is $278.80, reduced from the regular $328 fare. The offer is available for bookings and travel from 27 August through 25 September 2026, subject to availability.

As the special is limited to a four-week travel window, individual dates may fill faster than usual—particularly days with favourable forecasts or strong demand from Port Douglas visitors.

From choosing a tour to choosing the right reef day

The Great Barrier Reef is too diverse for every visitor to have exactly the same “best” trip. But if your ideal day means a fast modern vessel, three different outer-reef locations and up to five hours exploring the famous Agincourt Ribbon Reefs, this Silversonic special deserves serious consideration.

It is an opportunity to pay less without settling for less reef.
