You need to come into our shop located on the Cairns Esplanade the day before departure to pick up the camera before 5:30 pm. You also need to supply your own SD Camera Card and drop the camera off back at our shop before 5:30pm.
Please Remember there is no other way to collect our cameras! All passengers must come into our shop the day before departure day before 5:30 pm.
I booked the overnight trip primarily because I wanted to experience a night dive for the first time. DSDD certainly didn’t disappoint! The crew were really friendly and could answer all your questions (however pointless they were!) They knew the dive sites intimately, so could point out the best locations for finding turtles, cuttlefish, lionfish – whatever your particular passion!
The night dive was a truly amazing experience. While it didn’t feel completely natural to enter the water in the dark, at least you were comfortable in the knowledge that all nearby sharks were on the other side of the boat, sunning themselves in the spotlights. Looking up from the depths and seeing their circling silhouettes was a real trip! It was utterly different from a day dive, but equally stunning, with huge Trevallys using your torch beam as a guide for their dinner, parrot fish sleeping nestled in a mucus bubble for protection, and everywhere the little red eyes of crustaceans reflecting off the torch light.
All in all, I had 7 amazing dives in two days, with great visibility and lots of fascinating sightings, despite the rather mixed weather! I can’t wait to come back!
