Diving Conditions after Cyclone Jasper Cairns Australia 2024

With Cyclone Jasper passing through the Cairns and Port Douglas region only 2 weeks ago we have been fielding questions: What are the diving conditions after Cyclone Jasper in Cairns Australia 2024?

The Answer …. absolutely beautiful!

We have had nearly 3 weeks of blue skies and sunshine with around 10 knots of wind each day. Very calm ocean conditions with underwater visibility sitting at around 15 meters and growing!

With calm seas, low wind, and time passing by the underwater visibility is now sitting at around what it normally runs at this time of the year. Divers are enjoying 15 meters the average distance underwater.

Diving the Great Barrier Reef in Cairns during the summer months offers beautiful warm water diving with underwater temperatures at around 28 degrees Celsius. Just stunning!

You can have magnificent blue skies and sunshine with no clouds. You can also get hot humid days that build up into late afternoon thunderstorms. You can get early morning rain with hot sunny days then late afternoon storms.

All dive boats and liveaboard expeditions are traveling as per normal even if there is a little rain around. All the marine animals and coral reefs are still there underwater. Divers are enjoying some beautiful dives with special mention of beautiful cuttlefish interactions, up-close encounters with anemonefish and sea anemones, and of course sea turtles.
