Michelle Stevens | Cairns Dive Centre
In early February 2013, Michelle Stevens enjoyed a 2 day / 1 night diving liveaboard trip from Cairns, to the Outer Great Barrier Reef, with Cairns Dive Centre. Staying at sea on Kangaroo Explorer, Michelle did several day dives and a guided night dive. She saw lots of Great Barrier Reef creatures, including turtles, reef sharks, moray eels, stingrays and many different types of fish.

I decided to go on the 2 day-1 night liveaboard trip and had a great time. It takes a couple hours to get to the dive site and the water was choppy [when I went out], so if you get sea-sick then beware. I was originally debating between the 3 day or 2 day trip, but I found that 6 dives was plenty. You can also go into the water a 7th time to go snorkelling on your last day. During the dives I saw sharks, turtles, eels and plenty of fish. The night dive was a little scary but awesome and I would definitely do another one – you go in with a torch and can see more predators and less small fish roaming about. If you haven’t done a night dive yet, there is a mandatory additional fee for a guide (11$ per person). I was a little disappointed because this was not told to me, but guides are helpful as you don’t have to concern yourself with where you’re going and they find cool stuff for you to look at. Other than the dives, I enjoyed the food they served, the rooms were tidy and the staff was also very friendly.
