Snorkeling with Turtles from Cairns & Fitzroy Island!

All we can say is Wow! On this day we snorkeled with several green sea turtles on the Great Barrier Reef from Cairns.

On this day we departed very early at 8:00 am we traveled 52 km offshore to a beautiful reef platform. One of the highlights of getting out to the reef early is turtles are out and about feeding in the shallow coral gardens of the reef.

As the morning sun rose over the horizon today we were blessed to find hundreds of moon jellyfish hiding on the western dive site of the Moore reef platform out of the wind. Congregating together in the calm water side of the platform created the perfect hunting ground for beautiful Green sea turtles.

Green Sea turtles like nothing more than gauging themselves on moon jellies and today we were blessed to find several sea turtles enjoying their breakfast.

Cairns & the Great Barrier Reef is home to 6 of the world’s 7 sea turtle species, with the most common sightings being smaller green sea turtles and hawksbill sea turtles.
