These trips depart every day except Tuesday and unlike Cairns’ other liveaboard trips, you stay on the same boat, with the same crew and passengers, for the duration of your trip. Visit several different reef locations and enjoy sun set over the Coral Sea, before waking up on the Great Barrier Reef.

Pro Dive has three, fully equipped dive charter vessels. Each of the 23.95m long monohull boats has 14 twin share cabins and 2 double cabins, sleeping up to 32 passengers. The boat has an air-conditioned interior and exterior sundeck. There are eight toilet / shower bathrooms on board and the crew to passenger ratio is 1:5. Linen is supplied but bring your own towels.

This great value trip includes inner-city transfers in Cairns, transfers to and from the Great Barrier Reef, all meals, free Wi-Fi, all safety and dive / snorkel briefings and all equipment. The meals are prepared fresh on board and always include hot and cold selections. Complimentary tea, coffee and water is available throughout the trip. Itinerary:

Detailed below is a basic itinerary, based on a standard trip. Please note itineraries may vary, pending weather and conditions. We have included daily highlights, as well as detailed trip information, for ease of reading. Once you book we will send you a map where you can visit the Pro Dive retail shop (corner of Shields & Grafton Street) the day/night before your departure, to arrange your dive equipment. (Also if you are interested in our 1 x FREE Digital Underwater Camera Hire you will need to come to our shop the day before departure before 5:30 pm to pick up the camera. You also need to supply your own SD camera card.)

DAY 1. Highlights: Leaving Cairns and exploring two (2) different reef sites on the Great Barrier Reef. For divers, up to four (4) certified dives, including a night dive.

MORE DETAIL: If you are utilising the complimentary hotel transfers these commence at 5.45am, taking you to the Pro Dive retail store, on the corner of Shields and Grafton Street, for check-in and equipment allocation at 6.15am. Once everyone is sorted, the coach transfers all guests to the Marlin Marina (five-minute drive) where you are welcomed aboard the Pro Dive ScubaPro vessel by the crew.

A light breakfast is served on arrival, consisting of fruit, croissants, toast etc, while the Trip Director welcomes you aboard and allocates cabins and passenger safety numbers. ScubaPro pulls out of Cairns around 7am and commences its three (3) hour trip to the Great Barrier Reef.

During the journey, a video presentation is played covering ship safety and general rules of conduct during the liveaboard trip (including the honour system for soft drinks and snacks, the importance of staying hydrated and preventative sea sickness medication).

Afterwards, the guests are broken up into groups and allocated their equipment for the trip. Snorkellers and divers are provided with their respective briefings and once all of this is taken care of, everyone can relax around the boat and enjoy the trip to sea.

Pro Dive Cairns reaches its first reef site at around 11.30am, where divers and snorkelers are given their first opportunity to explore the Great Barrier Reef. Lunch is served from 12.45pm, including soups, salads, bread rolls and cold meats.

After lunch, there is time for another dive / snorkel before Pro Dive Cairns moves to a new reef location for the third in-water session, which is around 4.30pm. Dinner is served at 6pm: the menu changes daily but it always includes hot and cold options. For certified scuba divers, there is the option of a night dive tonight, which commences at 7.30pm. Dessert is served afterwards.

DAY 2. Highlights: Sun rise over the Great Barrier Reef and wake up with an early morning dive or snorkel. For certified divers, up to four (4) certified dives today, including the option of a night dive. Snorkellers can try an introductory scuba dive (additional cost). Sun set over the Coral Sea.

MORE DETAIL: Pending conditions, Pro Dive Cairns moves to a new reef site this morning, so that keen divers / snorkelers will have a new location to explore. Water entry is from around 7.15am and a hot / cold breakfast is served from 8am.

Plenty of time to chill out and relax this morning, as the next in-water activity does not commence until around 11am. If the boat had not already moved earlier in the day, it will move during this time to a new reef location. After some more snorkel / dive time, a delicious buffet lunch is served at 12pm and again, although the menu changes often, this will usually include a pasta component.

After lunch there is more time in the water to explore this afternoon, with dinner not being served until 6pm. Tonight, certified divers have the option of another night dive, with dessert served afterwards at 8.30pm. It’s an early start tomorrow, so you should try to get an early night tonight.

DAY 3. Highlights: Watching sun rise over the Coral Sea. For divers, up to three (3) certified dives today, including an early morning dive. Snorkellers can try an introductory scuba dive (additional cost).

MORE DETAIL: It’s an earlier start today, with the wake-up call coming at 5.30am to get everyone ready for the first dive / snorkel at 6.30am. Believe me the early morning dip into the ocean is always worth getting up for, as this is the time of day when the night shift are changing over to the day shift. You can expect to see reef sharks cruising around, as well as large schools of Bumpheaded Parrotfish.

Afterwards a hot / cold breakfast is served inside and while you eat, Pro Dive Cairns moves to a new reef location. There is time for two more lots of diving and snorkelling today, both of which will be completed before lunch, which is served around 12.15pm. While you eat lunch, the crew pack-up the boat and prepare to begin the return journey to Cairns.

In the afternoon, just enjoy the ride back, chilling out in the sunshine on the top deck. You will get into Cairns’ Marlin Marina at around 3.30pm, with transfers back to your accommodation. Everyone is invited to meet up for drinks / dinner that night: this is not included and is totally optional / at your own discretion.

Diving:

Pro Dive Cairns also runs a highly awarded PADI dive training centre. As such, guests on board the liveaboard trip may be a combination of certified divers, new divers and divers choosing to complete their Advanced, Rescue course or higher. The trip is also suitable for those wanting to try scuba diving for the first time with an introductory dive (no experience necessary). All equipment and dive briefings are included in the dive prices.

INTRODUCTORY DIVES: A great opportunity to try scuba diving for the first time with a professional dive company. Comprehensive dive briefings are included in the introductory dive price, as is all equipment and dive guides. These dives do not go very deep and are a great way to get a feel for scuba diving, while seeing the Great Barrier Reef. This can be booked on board the boat.

CERTIFIED DIVING: Scuba divers of all experience and certification levels will enjoy the Pro Dive Cairns liveaboard trips. You can complete up to 11 dives, including two (2) night dives, and all equipment and dive site briefings are included. Please note the number of dives you choose to complete is up to you, you can do as many, or as few, as you like.

All certified diving on Pro Dive Cairns is unguided, except for the very first dive of the trip, which is optional guided for those divers who have not dived for a while. There is no solo diving on Pro Dive Cairns. If you are not travelling with a dive buddy, this is no problem, you will be paired up with another diver on board.

Dive site depth varies anywhere from 10 – 25m. Certified divers can dive to the maximum depth of their experience and certification. Pro Dive Cairns is licensed to visit up to 16 different reef sites and will move throughout the trip, to maximise your diving experience and show you as much of the Great Barrier Reef as they can.

The certified dive price includes all dive briefings and dive equipment (tank, mask, fins, snorkel, BCD, regulators, weight belt and wet suit). Certified divers will be required to show evidence of their certification: through current dive licenses and log book. All divers will be required to sign a Waiver Release and Indemnity Deed on board the boat. You will also be required to complete dive medical paperwork on board.

Snorkeling:

Pro Dive Cairns trips also cater to snorkelers. The boat will visit several different reef sites during the 3 day / 2 night trip, allowing you to see and explore more of the Great Barrier Reef than you would get to see on a day trip. You also get to see sun rise and sun set over the Coral Sea, which can be pretty magical!

We would recommend these trips to snorkelers who are comfortable and confident in the water. All of the reef sites are open water sites (rather than being near an island or pontoon) and the water depth varies. Although the sites are relatively sheltered, within the Great Barrier Reef, there may still be tidal current and swell.

The reef itself rises from the ocean floor to just metres beneath the surface, so you will be able to get quite close to the corals and fish. All snorkelling equipment (mask, fins and snorkel) is included in the snorkel price, as is wet / lycra suits. There is also the option to try introductory diving (no experience necessary) while on board.

Tour Notes:

Remember to try any form of scuba diving everyone needs to be medically fit with no asthma and not be taking any prescription medication. PADI recommends allowing up to 24 hours after diving before flying in an airplane. Some tour operators have a no refund policy for any dives not completed for whatever reason. Please note the art of freediving is not permitted on any of the day boats or liveaboard dive boats from Cairns & Port Douglas. With the high instances of (shallow water blackout) companies do not allow this for safety reasons.

Do you have Medical Issues:

Please note if you have any medical issues you will need to go see your local GP where you live and get them to write you a letter on the practice letterhead signed and dated by your doctor that you are “Fit to dive” If you have one of these letters then all dive companies in Cairns will take you diving. Please note these letters are only valid for three months from their date of issue.

Extras: You can also add the Advanced Course for an extra $195.00 Read about the full 3-Day/2-Night PADI Advanced Course from Pro-Dive Cairns.

Inclusions: Accommodation, bus transfers (City and Northern Beaches), all dive equipment (includes a wetsuit 5mm short sleeve, dive computer, BCD, regulator, snorkel, fins, mask and prescription mask if required), 9 x day dives + 2 x night dives, all chef-prepared meals and accommodation includes the bed linen.

Diving Notes: All Certified dives are unguided, this gives you the freedom to dive in your own buddy pairs and explore the Great Barrier Reef. (If you are travelling solo don’t worry the crew will find you a buddy on the boat.) Dive crew give fantastic dive briefings at each and every site, with details maps and recommendations of where to find the best stuff. Enjoy easy comfortable diving with large coral gardens, gentle slopes and generally not too much current.
