This brand new liveaboard dive expedition has commenced for the 2021 Minke Whale dive season and is operated by the 5 Star dive team at Pro-Dive Cairns. With more than 20 years of diving experience on the Great Barrier Reef, Pro-Dive Cairns is renowned for fantastic customer service and extremely high safety standards.
Dive the beautiful untouched Ribbon Reefs north of Port Douglas and interact with Dwarf Minke Whales. This a seasonal expedition that only operates from JUNE to JULY each year! Read the full trip itinerary below:
The demand for diving and snorkeling with Dwarf Minke Whales in 2021 has encouraged the PRO DIVE – Ribbon Reef Minke Whale Liveaboard to operate and depart Cairns on Tuesdays and return to Cairns on Fridays. Scuba divers and snorkelers can enjoy diving on the Agincourt Ribbon Reefs, Ribbon Reef Number 10, and Ribbon Reef Number 3. These are spectacular dive sites that very rarely get visited throughout the year. The dwarf Minke Whale expeditions operate during the months of June and July each year.
The PRO DIVE – Ribbon Reef Minke Whale Liveaboard has one of the few permits from the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority to swim with dwarf minke whales if encountered. These liveaboard expeditions are suited to both snorkelers and scuba divers. Most Minke Whale encounters happen on the snorkel line which is placed in front of the boat when moored at the dive sites.

Itinerary:
4 DAY/3 NIGHT ITINERARY
The trip includes all chef-prepared meals. All rooms are based on TWIN share with share bathrooms outside the rooms.
DAY 1: Cairns to Agincourt ribbon reefs – 2 Dives
• 7:00am. Depart Cairns. Light breakfast served onboard as you cruise to the Great Barrier Reef.
• Enjoy two dives at exclusive Agincourt reef sites
• 8:00 pm depart Agincourt reefs for overnight steam to Ribbon Reef 10.
DAY 2: Ribbon Reef 10 – 4 Dives (inc 1-night dive)
• Arrive Ribbon 10 approx 6:00 am
• 4 dives through the day including 1-night dive
• Approx. 8:00 pm depart Ribbon 10 for overnight steam to Ribbon 3
DAY 3: Ribbon Reef 3: 4 Dives (inc 1-night dive)
• Arrive Ribbon 3 approx 6:00 am
• Approx. 8:00 pm depart Ribbon 3 for overnight steam to Cairns.
DAY 4: Arrive, Cairns,

Diving:
Suba diving on the ribbon reefs is beautiful. These reefs grow on the edge of the continental shelf of Australia. The diving here can vary from shallow water coral garden dives to deep 22 / 26 meters pinnacle reef dives. (All depending on your certification level.)
All dives are un-guided, this gives you the freedom to buddy up with another diver on the boat and explore the reefs at your own leisure. Detailed dive briefings are included at the start of each and every dive. Details maps of the dive sites with mornings and boat position are explained.
Full dive gear is included like snorkel, fins, mask, wetsuit, bcd, regulator and dives computer. You are also welcome to bring your won gear. (Please note there is no price difference for using your own gear).
Generally, diving is easy with large corals gardens, gentle sloping walls, and some deep pinnacle bommies. Most Minke Whale encounters happen on the Snorkel Mooring line. This is a floating line usually set out at the front of the boat. Most people interact with the Whales on this line snorkeling.
Snorkeling:
Snorkeling can be done on top of the reefs with easy in-water access from the back of the boat. A mooring line will be placed in front of the boat at certain times and locations and this is where most of the Minke Whale encounters happen.
All snorkel gear is provided like snorkel, fins and mask. You are welcome to bring your own gear but please note there is no price reduction for using your own gear.

Amazing interaction with minke whales. We saw 15 whales and were swimming with them around 2 metres away. Clint is really helpful and let us borrow his camera for free. We got some really nice snaps of a trip we will never forget.

Remember to try any form of scuba diving everyone needs to be medically fit with no asthma and not be taking any prescription medication. PADI recommends allowing up to 24 hours after diving before flying in an airplane. Some tour operators have a no refund policy for any dives not completed for whatever reason. Please note the art of freediving is not permitted on any of the day boats or liveaboard dive boats from Cairns & Port Douglas. With the high instances of (shallow water blackout) companies do not allow this for safety reasons.
Do you have Medical Issues:
Please note if you have any medical issues you will need to go see your local GP where you live and get them to write you a letter on the practice letterhead signed and dated by your doctor that you are “Fit to dive” If you have one of these letters then all dive companies in Cairns will take you diving. Please note these letters are only valid for three months from their date of issue.
Inclusions: Accommodation, bus transfers (City and Northern Beaches), all dive equipment (includes a wetsuit 5mm short sleeve, dive computer, BCD, regulator, snorkel, fins, mask and prescription mask if required), 8 x day dives + 2 x night dives, all chef-prepared meals and accommodation includes the bed linen.
Diving Notes: All Certified dives are unguided, this gives you the freedom to dive in your own buddy pairs and explore the Great Barrier Reef. (If you are travelling solo don’t worry the crew will find you a buddy on the boat.) Dive crew give fantastic dive briefings at each and every site, with details maps and recommendations of where to find the best stuff. Enjoy easy comfortable diving with large coral gardens, gentle slopes and generally not too much current.
