What You Can Do on Green Island:

Green Island offers an impressive amount of variety for such a small 12-hectare cay, making it ideal for families, couples, first-time snorkellers and anyone tight on time: (You can choose snorkel gear or a glass bottom boat tour).

  • Snorkel from the beach and explore shallow fringing reefs teeming with colourful fish.

  • Choose a glass-bottom boat tour if you’d prefer to stay dry but still want to see coral gardens and marine life.

  • Wander the self-guided rainforest boardwalks, featuring interpretive signage and shady pathways under the island’s unique canopy.

  • Visit optional extra Marineland Melanesia, home to impressive crocodiles, marine displays and fascinating cultural artefacts.

  • Enjoy access to the island resort’s exclusive day-guest swimming pool, a great spot to cool off between activities.

  • Relax on the beach, hire sun loungers, or simply enjoy the warm tropical breeze.

Food & Facilities:

Lunch is flexible — choose from the island’s cafés, pool bars, takeaway outlets or restaurants, or bring your own picnic (just no glass or alcohol). Washrooms, freshwater showers and plenty of shaded areas make it comfortable for all ages.

Unlike most half-day reef tours in Cairns, this Green Island Half-Day Tour does offer diving as an optional extra. Guests can choose from a range of add-on experiences, including:

  • Introductory Diving (No Experience Needed) – 1 dive with full gear
  • Certified Diving – 1 dive with full gear
  • Seawalker Helmet Dive – Walk on the seafloor without needing to swim or use a regulator
  • Boat Snorkel Tour – Guided snorkelling from the vessel

All dive and Seawalker activities are run by experienced Great Adventures/Quicksilver crew and are subject to availability and standard medical requirements on the day.

If you’re interested in diving but prefer a shorter day on the water, this half-day option is an easy, convenient way to try it — no full-day tour required.

Remember to try any form of scuba diving or helmet diving everyone must be medically fit with no asthma and not be taking any prescription medication. PADI also recommends allowing up to 24 hours after diving before flying in an Aeroplan. If you have any known medical issues then it is advised to see you local GP doctor where you live and get them to write you a letter on the practice letter head signed and dated by the doctor stating you are “Fit to Dive”.

Snorkeling:

Green Island has fringing reefs and offshore sea grass beds. Snorkelling can be done directly from beach, making it ideal for those who are not confident in the water. The waters surrounding the island are relatively shallow and somewhat protected from ocean currents. You can choose snorkelling equipment as a part of your half day tour and hire lycra or wetsuits on the island (if required). Click here for tips on the best Green Island snorkelling locations.
