This day tour is operated by well known local Cairns reef tour operator Reef Magic Cruises. Although they are perhaps better known for their pontoon tour, Reef Magic Cruises also run another catamaran, called Dreamtime Dive and Snorkel. Dreamtime Dive & Snorkel Cruises provides dive and snorkel day tours to the Outer Great Barrier Reef from Cairns, providing guests with up to five (5) hours at two stunning reef locations.
Dreamtime Dive & Snorkel operate a rare roving reef permit, providing access to more than 16 outer reef sites. The day also includes a magical educational experience with local Indigenous rangers from the Gimuy Walubara Yidinji people, the Gunggandji Mandingalbay people and Yirrganydji people. The tour is designed to give you a better understanding of the diverse ecosystems of the Great Barrier Reef with the interpretation of local indigenous cultures.
Where do they go? It depends on the day, with reef locations chosen to maximize the experience, pending weather and conditions. What will you see? The very best of Cairns’ Outer Great Barrier Reef.
This tour includes morning and afternoon tea, chef-prepared buffet lunch. It also includes all snorkeling equipment like snorkel, fins, mask, lycra suit, or wetsuit. The boat will visit 2 outer reef locations in one day, and is the only cultural Great Barrier Reef experience with Cultural Guides.
Dreamtime Dive & Snorkel is a modern, spacious, air-conditioned catamaran. With less than 90 minutes of travel time, to and from the reef, guests enjoy up to 5 hours of exploring the wonders of the Outer Great Barrier Reef. This boat caters to swimmers, snorkelers and scuba divers.

Itinerary:
Check-in for Dreamtime Dive & Snorkel is directly on the boat which is located at Marlin Marina, 1 Spence Street,
Cairns. You can also check in inside the Cairns Reef Fleet Terminal if you are lost. Lots of signage, easy to find. Check-in commences at 8:00 a.m. and goes until 8.30 a.m. On check-in, you receive your boarding pass and proceed directly to the Dreamtime Dive & Snorkel boat, which is moored at Marlin Marina (directly adjacent to the Reef Fleet Terminal). Complimentary tea and coffee are served on boarding and the boat departs the Marina at 9:00 am. Don’t be late!
Enjoy a marine biologist presentation on the way to the reef, an Indigenous welcome and acknowledgment ceremony as well as detailed trip information about equipment, and snorkel briefings. Travel time is approximately 90 minutes and you will have up to five (5) hours to explore the reef. Dreamtime Dive & Snorkel departs the reef at around 3.30 p.m., getting you back into Cairns at 5:00 p.m.
Diving:
Dreamtime Dive & Snorkel Cruises offers first-time introductory scuba diving and also certified scuba diving.
First-time introductory diving: allows people to try a first-time dive with no experience necessary. In Queensland, first-time introductory divers are allowed to go down to a maximum depth of 12 meters. All scuba dive and snorkel equipment is provided and you will complete the dive with a professional dive instructor. Generally 4 x divers to one guide.
Certified Scuba Diving: This is for people who already have their open-water dive license like the PADI or SSI Open Water Certification. Full dive gear like BCD, regulators, dive computers, tanks, weights, and all snorkel gear will be provided. All dives are guided by professional dive instructors.
All scuba diving is subject to the successful completion of an on-board medical questionnaire. Certain medical conditions (ie: asthma) and some medications may exclude individuals from diving. The minimum legal age for diving is 12 years. All divers under 18 years of age must have parent/guardian consent. Certified Divers must produce their certification card. Please note: it is recommended to leave at least 24 hours between diving and flying with the time period dependent on depth, duration, and number of dives.
Snorkeling:
Enjoy snorkeling over beautiful shallow coral gardens with literally hundreds of species of marine animals hiding in the soft and hard corals. Dreamtime Dive & Snorkel Cruises visits two outer reef locations at the Outer Great Barrier Reef. As such, all snorkeling sites are open water sites and it is recommended that participants be comfortable swimmers. All snorkelling equipment is provided to you and buoyancy devices are also available if required. Note: Wet suits/lycra suits are included in the day trip price.

Remember to try any form of scuba diving everyone needs to be medically fit with no asthma and not be taking any prescription medication. PADI recommends allowing up to 24 hours after diving before flying in an airplane. Some tour operators have a no refund policy for any dives not completed for whatever reason. Please note the art of freediving is not permitted on any of the day boats or liveaboard dive boats from Cairns & Port Douglas. With the high instances of (shallow water blackout) companies do not allow this for safety reasons. It is highly recommended that passengers take out full comprehensive travel insurance for all tours and travel arrangements.
Do you have Medical Issues:
Please note if you have any medical issues you will need to go see your local GP where you live and get them to write you a letter on the practice letterhead signed and dated by your doctor that you are “Fit to dive” If you have one of these letters then all dive companies in Cairns will take you diving. Please note these letters are only valid for three months from their date of issue.
