Don’t want to learn to dive on an overnight liveaboard? (Are you worried about seasickness or perhaps you have already booked your hotel in Cairns?) The 4-Day PADI Learn to Dive Course with day trips to the reef is for you! The first two days, a minibus will pick you up from your Cairns hotel at around 8:45 am where you will then spend the day in a classroom and swimming pool completing all the training modules that get you ready to dive on the Great Barrier Reef! Swimming pool and classroom training is a great way to receive hands-on training with a professional dive instructor. It allows you to ask as many questions as you wish, it’s also a great way to meet other like-minded travelers and learn to dive buddies. This dive course is fun and proactive in helping you learn all the skills you need to dive safely down to a maximum depth of 18 meters anywhere in the world! The bus will drop you back at your hotel around 4:30 pm / 5:00 pm at the end of each day.
After your first two days in the classroom, you will then enjoy two one-day trips out on the reef to complete your training dives. The boat is a beautiful fast modern high-speed day boat called Aqua Quest that departs the Cairns marlin marina at 8:30 am in the morning and returns to Cairns at 4:30 pm. Each day you will complete two training dives and after completing the 4 PADI certification dives you will now have the PADI open-water dive license! Yey! This license allows you to dive down to a maximum depth of 18 meters anywhere in the world!
Please note to learn to dive everyone must be medically fit with no asthma and not be taking any prescription medication. PADI recommends allowing up to 24 hours after diving before flying in an airplane. If you are over 45 years of age you will need to complete the Australian Standards Dive Medical AS4005.1 please contact your local GP and complete this before booking your learn to dive course.

Itinerary:
The first two days of this course you will complete your classroom and swimming pool training with a highly experienced dive instructor. Following this you will spend two one-day trips on the reef with the day boat Aqua Quest. Meals are not included for the first two swimming pool and classroom days but they are included on the boat portion of the trip like morning/afternoon tea with buffet lunch.
Day-01:
Bus pick up from a Cairns hotel around 8:45 am. Check-in at the Dive Centre at 319 Draper Street, Cairns. Meet your instructor, complete the paperwork, and begin your dive theory. Please note lunch is not included, but you can bring a packed lunch or there are plenty of places to eat nearby. Afternoon: Begin your scuba skills training in the swimming pool and complete your tread water test. The first day finishes at approximately 5.30 pm.
Day-02:
Pick up from Cairns city accommodation at around 8:45 am. In the morning you will continue your scuba skills in the pool and complete a 200-meter swim test. You will learn how to put on your equipment, assemble your dive gear and prepare for more skills training. Please note lunch is not included, but you can bring a packed lunch or there are plenty of places to eat nearby. Afternoon: Finish and review scuba theory, finish with a multiple choice exam.
Day-03:
The bus will pick you up from your Cairns Hotel around 7:30 am. You will then check in and board AquaQuest at Cairns Marlin Marina for your day trip to the Great Barrier Reef. Set off on a 90-minute cruise to the outer reef, receive a briefing, then gear up and do your first training dive. At 12:00 pm: Fuel up with a hearty lunch you will need it! Lunch with morning and afternoon tea is included on the boat. 12:30 pm: You will enter the water for your second dive to refine your skills, and practice your snorkeling skills at the reef’s beautiful shallow cays. At 2.30 pm: The boat will cruise back to Cairns, arriving at approximately 4.30 pm.
Day-04:
The bus will pick you up from your Cairns Hotel around 7:30 am. You will then check in and board AquaQuest at Cairns Marlin Marina for your day trip to the Great Barrier Reef. Set off on a 90-minute cruise to the outer reef, receive a briefing, then gear up and do your third training dive. At 12:00 pm: Fuel up with a hearty lunch you will need it! Lunch with morning and afternoon tea is included on the boat. 12:30 pm: You will enter the water for your 4th and final training dive after completing you have now earned your PADI open water dive license (Congratulations!). At 2.30 pm: The boat will cruise back to Cairns, arriving at approximately 4.30 pm.
The open water dive course only includes the 4 x open water training dives. There is no chance to do a fun dive on this trip as you wont have enough time. But you will get your PADI open water license.
Diving:
The 4-Day PADI Learn to dive course allows you to learn to dive but stay in your own hotel each night. You will complete the 4 x PADI training dives while out on the day boat Aqua Quest. On your two one-day trips on the reef, all dive gear is provided like snorkel, fins, mask, wetsuit, dive computer, BCD, regulator, and Lunch.
Snorkeling:
This is a learn to dive course, there might be a little bit of time to try some snorkeling once all your training dives are completed but in general most of your time will be taken up completing all your training dives.

Aqua Quest is the newest addition to the Deep Sea Divers Den fleet, commencing Cairns Great Barrier Reef day tour operations in December 2015. This brand new boat is fully equipped with the latest dive and snorkel equipment and provides guests with up to five (5) hours at the reef and the chance to do three (3) scuba dives and snorkelling.

Remember to try any form of scuba diving everyone needs to be medically fit with no asthma and not be taking any prescription medication. PADI recommends allowing up to 24 hours after diving before flying in an airplane. Some tour operators have a no refund policy for any dives not completed for whatever reason. Please note the art of freediving is not permitted on any of the day boats or liveaboard dive boats from Cairns & Port Douglas. With the high instances of (shallow water blackout) companies do not allow this for safety reasons.
Do you have Medical Issues:
Please note if you have any medical issues you will need to go see your local GP where you live and get them to write you a letter on the practice letterhead signed and dated by your doctor that you are “Fit to dive” If you have one of these letters then all dive companies in Cairns will take you diving. Please note these letters are only valid for three months from their date of issue.
