Liveaboard dive boat operator Spirit of Freedom offers 7-Day Far Northern Scuba Diving Expeditions into the remote Northern regions of the Great Barrier Reef.
Operating for a short 4 weeks of the entire year, these liveaboard dive expeditions are a once in a lifetime scuba diving opportunity for most people.
Explore untouched parts of the Northern regions of the Great Barrier Reef where very few people go. The boat skipper has the freedom to explore these magnificent uncharted waters, finding new dive sites, new species of corals and marine life. Expect to dive on 40+ meter walls with large arrays of heavily covered corals gardens with many different species of soft and hard corals.
Expect to dive with sharks, schooling fish, soft and hard vertebrates, great for macro and wide-angle underwater photography.
Spirit of Freedom has 3 spacious areas for living. The lower decks house the majority of rooms, the Quad, TWIN and Double bedrooms. The second level houses the luxury Ocean view standard and Ocean view deluxe rooms.
The crew is attentive and professional, they also are what we call dive crazy! They love their job, with a highly professional attitude and the opportunity to live, work and dive on the remote Far Northern parts of the Great Barrier Reef, this is a dream come true for the crew.
All dives are unguided as with most liveaboards, but the dive briefings are detailed and descriptive. You will be buddy with another diver of similar experience and all divers are required to wear a GPS satellite navigation tracker in there BCD. This prevents any divers getting lost and unable to be found.
Dive gear can be hired for the length of the trip (see pricing below) or you are welcome to bring your own. Remember there is a 20kg weight restriction for all dives as there is a flight involved for travel to and from Cairns to Horn Island. You need to purchase your own flight ticket from domestic air carrier Qantas Link.

Remember to try any form of scuba diving everyone needs to be medically fit with no asthma and not be taking any prescription medication. PADI recommends allowing up to 24 hours after diving before flying in an airplane. Some tour operators have a no refund policy for any dives not completed for whatever reason. Please note the art of freediving is not permitted on any of the day boats or liveaboard dive boats from Cairns & Port Douglas. With the high instances of (shallow water blackout) companies do not allow this for safety reasons.
Do you have Medical Issues:
Please note if you have any medical issues you will need to go see your local GP where you live and get them to write you a letter on the practice letterhead signed and dated by your doctor that you are “Fit to dive” If you have one of these letters then all dive companies in Cairns will take you diving. Please note these letters are only valid for three months from their date of issue.

EXTRAS DIVE GEAR:
Full dive gear hire can be purchased for an extra charge, this includes dive computer, torch, batteries, snorkel, fins, mask, wetsuit, BCD and REGS – $245.00 for the entire trip.
NITROX FILLS:
Nitrox tank fills are charged at $10.00 per fill or $180.00 for all tank fills on the trip.
FLIGHTS:
Flights are not included and must be purchased separately from local airline Qantas link. The flight that you will need to purchase separately is from Horn Island to Cairns or from Cairns to Horn Island depending on which trip you choose. Horn Island Departures Qantaslink offer daily flights from Horn Island to Cairns. Direct flights to Cairns depart at 10.40am and 14.25pm. Flight time is 1hr 45 mins.
TERMS OF PAYMENT:
(For individuals). A 20% deposit is required to secure your booking Full payment is due 2 months prior to your trip departure date Payment accepted VISA or Mastercard.
CANCELATIONS:
Cancellations made within 6 months of departure date will incur a fee of 20% of the trip fee. No refund applies for cancellations made within 2 months of departure date.
