Spirit Of Freedom – Far Northern Scuba Diving Expeditions

7 Day / 7 Night Trips | Operates: Weekly | Departs: 4:00pm | Transfers available: Yes

Liveaboard dive boat operator Spirit of Freedom offers 7-Day Far Northern Scuba Diving Expeditions into the remote Northern regions of the Great Barrier Reef.

Operating for a short 4 weeks of the entire year, these liveaboard dive expeditions are a once in a lifetime scuba diving opportunity for most people.

Explore untouched parts of the Northern regions of the Great Barrier Reef where very few people go. The boat skipper has the freedom to explore these magnificent uncharted waters, finding new dive sites, new species of corals and marine life. Expect to dive on 40+ meter walls with large arrays of heavily covered corals gardens with many different species of soft and hard corals.

Expect to dive with sharks, schooling fish, soft and hard vertebrates, great for macro and wide-angle underwater photography.

Spirit of Freedom has 3 spacious areas for living. The lower decks house the majority of rooms, the Quad, TWIN and Double bedrooms. The second level houses the luxury Ocean view standard and Ocean view deluxe rooms.

The crew is attentive and professional, they also are what we call dive crazy! They love their job, with a highly professional attitude and the opportunity to live, work and dive on the remote Far Northern parts of the Great Barrier Reef, this is a dream come true for the crew.

All dives are unguided as with most liveaboards, but the dive briefings are detailed and descriptive. You will be buddy with another diver of similar experience and all divers are required to wear a GPS satellite navigation tracker in there BCD. This prevents any divers getting lost and unable to be found.

Dive gear can be hired for the length of the trip (see pricing below) or you are welcome to bring your own. Remember there is a 20kg weight restriction for all dives as there is a flight involved for travel to and from Cairns to Horn Island. You need to purchase your own flight ticket from domestic air carrier Qantas Link.

This trip is recommended to experienced, certified divers. Advanced Diver certification is highly recommended, with some deeper reef sites not even starting until 18m beneath the surface. Divers are advised to have completed at least 25 Ocean Dives with at least 6 dives in the last 6 months.

Please note there is no solo diving on Spirit of Freedom. Any guests travelling on their own will be paired up with someone else on board of similar experience / skill levels. Most of the diving is unguided, however, Spirit of Freedom dive crew are in the water on every dive and can provide assistance if required.

Diving equipment is not included in the tour price. You are welcome to bring your own (some weight restrictions apply, ask us for more information) or hire it on the boat ($245.00 for full equipment rental). Other extras include Nitrox and the choice to participate in some dive courses (PADI Advanced or Nitrox).

Certified divers can enjoy up to 26 dives on this trip: you do not have to do all of the dives, do as many or as few as you like (there are no discounts if you do less dives).

Dive safety is considered paramount, especially given your distance from the mainland during this trip. This is stressed at every point along the trip. Divers must follow safe diving practises at all times. There is no reverse profiling.

Comprehensive dive site briefings are provided before every dive. In regards to depth, divers should dive to their experience levels or certification. There are no set limits on dive time: although divers must return to the boat with a minimum of 50 bar of air left in their tanks.

The dive service aboard Spirit of Freedom is excellent. The crew will help you to take on and off your fins for each dive, as well as defogging your mask. There are cold / hot freshwater showers on the dive deck and hot, fresh towels available after every dive.

Certified divers will be required to show evidence of their certification: through current dive licenses and log books. All divers will be required to sign a Waiver Release and Indemnity Deed on board the boat. You will also be required to complete dive medical paperwork on board. Once you book we will send you a link to the diver information form, you are required to fill this out as soon as your booking is confirmed.
