Silversonic, a part of the Quicksilver Cruises fleet, provides daily reef tours departing from Port Douglas. The fast, modern, comfortable and air-conditioned Silversonic visits three (3) different sites on the Agincourt Ribbon Reefs and provides up to five (5) hours actual reef time. The Agincourt Ribbon Reefs are on the outer reef and situated in open water, as such, this day tour is suitable for snorkelers who are confident swimmers and certified scuba divers. Licensed to visit 22 different reef sites, Silversonic’s captain will select the best three to maximize your experience on the day.

Travel time on Silversonic is approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes each way. Welcome, safety, equipment, trip, dive, and snorkel briefings are all provided on the way to the reef. The 29m Silversonic catamaran has two (2) levels of air-conditioned interior, an exterior sun deck and forward sun deck. Access to the water is comfortable and easy, thanks to the submerged platform at the rear of the boat. The boat has change rooms and hot freshwater showers and is stocked with the latest dive and snorkel equipment.

Included in the Silversonic day tour is morning and afternoon tea, a hot and cold buffet lunch (including prawns), snorkeling equipment (mask, snorkel and fins), snorkel briefings and a guided snorkel tour, reef interpretation presentation and lycra suits. Diving is an extra cost (see tabs below for more information) and certified divers can choose between one (1), two (2) or three (3) dives. Introductory diving is also available: no experience necessary. Note: Silversonic is also one of the few operators to have a permit allowing guests to swim with the Dwarf Minke Whales. This is seasonal and experience is not guaranteed.

Itinerary:

Check-in for the Silversonic day tour is at the Quicksilver offices, in Port Douglas’ Marina Mirage, from 8am. From there it’s a short 50m walk to the boat, which is moored in the Port Douglas marina. Boarding commences at 8.15am. Complimentary tea and coffee is served on boarding and you’ll have time to complete all of your safety and medical paperwork (to be completed by divers and snorkelers). Departure is at 8.30am and the trip to the reef is passed in comfort, as the crew provide all of the necessary briefings and information.

You arrive at the first reef location around 10.15am and have just over an hour to swim and explore before moving to the second site at 11.30am. Lunch is served in the air-conditioned cabin between 12 – 1.40pm, at which time Silversonic moves to the third reef site for the day. Afternoon tea is served at 2.30pm and the boat commences its return to port at 3pm, for a 4.30pm arrival into Port Douglas.

Diving:

Silversonic offers up to three (3) scuba dives per day: all dives are guided by professional dive guides and all equipment is included in the dive price. There is the option to try an introductory dive (no previous experience necessary) or book certified scuba diving.

INTRODUCTORY DIVES: No experience necessary. This is a great opportunity for those who want to try scuba diving for the first time. All equipment and tuition is included, with training provided on the way to the Agincourt Ribbon Reefs. These scuba dives are shallow and guided, giving non-divers the chance to experience the underwater world.

CERTIFIED DIVING: You will be required to show you dive license and preferably your log book. All certified diving on Silversonic is guided (unguided is not an option) and you can choose between 1, 2 and 3 dives, during your five hours at the Great Barrier Reef. Certified dives will last approximately 40-minutes each, with a maximum depth of 18m. Using the standard itinerary timings, the first dive is at 10.10am the second at 11.45am and the final dive at 1.45pm. All equipment is included in the certified diving price: dive medical paperwork will be completed on board.

Snorkeling:

Silversonic travels to the Agincourt Ribbon Reefs on the outer reef, which is an open water location. Whilst conditions are perfect for snorkelling, and the water is somewhat protected by the reef itself, we do recommend that you should be a confident swimmer and comfortable in the ocean. Snorkel equipment and site briefings are provided on board the boat and all of your equipment is included in the tour price, as is a guided snorkel tour. Access to the water is from a submerged platform and prescription masks are available on request (at no additional cost). Flotation devices and buoyancy vests are available on board if needed. Lycra suits are available for hire on board and are recommended for sun protection.

TOUR NOTES:

Remember to try any form of scuba diving everyone needs to be medically fit with no asthma and not be taking any prescription medication. PADI recommends allowing up to 24 hours after diving before flying in an airplane. Some tour operators have a no refund policy for any dives not completed for whatever reason. Please note the art of freediving is not permitted on any of the day boats or liveaboard dive boats from Cairns & Port Douglas. With the high instances of (shallow water blackout) companies do not allow this for safety reasons. It is highly recommended that passengers take out full comprehensive travel insurance for all tours and travel arrangements.

Do you have Medical Issues:

Please note if you have any medical issues you will need to go see your local GP where you live and get them to write you a letter on the practice letterhead signed and dated by your doctor that you are “Fit to dive” If you have one of these letters then all dive companies in Cairns will take you diving. Please note these letters are only valid for three months from their date of issue.

Inclusions: Tropical buffet lunch including seafood, morning & afternoon tea, guided snorkel tour, snorkel equipment (mask, fins and snorkel), lycra suit, qualified lifeguard supervision, reef interpretation presentation and return coach transfers, but only from Port Douglas accommodation (see below).
