Itinerary:

DAY 1 – Boarding, Sailing & First Night on the Reef

Highlights:

Begin your overnight sailing adventure to the Great Barrier Reef. Visit two different outer reef sites for snorkelling and diving, with the option for certified divers to enjoy a night dive after sunset. Snorkellers can also choose to try an introductory scuba dive (additional cost). End the day watching the sun set over the Coral Sea before sleeping at anchor on the reef.

More Detail:

Your Coral Sea Dreaming experience begins at 7:45am, boarding the ketch at Cairns’ Marlin Marina. Shortly after 8:00am, the sails are raised and your journey to the Great Barrier Reef begins.

You’ll arrive at your first reef site around late morning, where you’ll enjoy your first snorkelling and optional diving session, followed by a freshly prepared lunch onboard. In the early afternoon, the vessel moves to a second reef location, offering another water session and relaxed free time to unwind on deck or explore the reef at your own pace.

As evening approaches, certified divers have the opportunity to take part in a night dive, while others can relax on deck and enjoy the peaceful reef surroundings. Dinner is served onboard, followed by a spectacular sunset and a calm night anchored on the Great Barrier Reef. Tea and coffee are included.

DAY 2 – Sunrise Reef Time & Sail Back to Cairns

Highlights:

Wake up on the reef and enjoy an early morning swim or dive — one of the most magical times to experience the Great Barrier Reef. After breakfast with waterfront views, visit two more reef sites before a relaxed sail back to Cairns.

More Detail:

Your second day begins on the reef, often around sunrise, when the ocean is at its calmest and marine life is most active. After breakfast onboard, guests can enjoy an early morning snorkel or dive, with excellent chances of seeing turtles, reef sharks and cruising pelagic fish.

Later in the morning, you’ll visit your final reef site, with time for more snorkelling, diving or simply relaxing on deck. Lunch is served onboard before the sails are hoisted for the return journey to Cairns.

Enjoy the peaceful sail back along the coast, arriving back into port at approximately 4:30pm, bringing your Coral Sea Dreaming adventure to a close.

Diving:

Coral Sea Dreaming offers a choice of certified diving and introductory diving. All dives are guided by professional dive crew. Divers have the chance to take up to four (4) day dives and one (1) night dive during this 2 day / 1 night trip, which visits several reef locations and dive sites. All equipment and dive briefings are included in the dive price.

INTRODUCTORY DIVING: This is a great opportunity to try scuba diving for the first time (no experience necessary). To try an introductory dive you will need to be at least 12 years old and pass a dive medical on board the boat. All equipment and briefings are provided and included in the cost, as is a dive guide. Coral Sea Dreaming is also one of the very few boats to be licensed by Scuba Schools International to offer introductory night dives! To participate in one of these, you will have to have done an introductory day dive first (on board Coral Sea Dreaming).

CERTIFIED DIVING: This trip is suitable for certified divers of all experience levels. Coral Sea Dreaming is licensed to visit upto 25 moorings at 9 different reef systems. You have the chance to do up to four (4) day dives and one (1) night dive. All dives are guided by professional dive guides. If you are not travelling with a dive buddy, this is no problem; you will be paired up with another diver on board. Equipment and dive site briefings are all included in the dive price.

Dive site depth varies anywhere from 6 – 36m. Certified divers can dive to the maximum depth of their experience and certification and will be required to show evidence of their certification: through current dive licenses and log book.

Remember: to try any form of scuba diving everyone needs to be medically fit with no asthma and not be taking any prescription medication. PADI recommends allowing up to 24 hours after diving before flying!

Snorkeling:

Coral Sea Dreaming is perfect for snorkelers who are confident swimmers. The ketch visits several outer Great Barrier Reef sites and moors very close to the reef, meaning it’s only a small swim to the reef and its amazing coral gardens. That being said, it is open water swimming and water depth varies from a few metres (when you over the corals) to up to 36m. Snorkel site briefings are provided and flotation vests are also provided if you would prefer.

All snorkelling equipment (mask, fins and snorkel) are included as are wetsuits / lycra suits. Prescription masks are available with 24 hours notice. There is also the option to try introductory diving (no experience necessary) while on board. Added bonus: get to see the sun set and rise over the Coral Sea and Great Barrier Reef, it’s simply stunning!

Fab trip! Overnight on the coral sea dreaming boat was great, very comfortable, good food and nice small group. Dive sites were brilliant, saw loads including tonnes of reef sharks + turtles. Small numbers on the boat made for a much friendlier atmosphere and meant we had fantastic moorings. Highly recommended!

TOUR NOTES:

Remember to try any form of scuba diving everyone needs to be medically fit with no asthma and not be taking any prescription medication. PADI recommends allowing up to 24 hours after diving before flying in an airplane. Some tour operators have a no refund policy for any dives not completed for whatever reason. Please note the art of freediving is not permitted on any of the day boats or liveaboard dive boats from Cairns & Port Douglas. With the high instances of (shallow water blackout) companies do not allow this for safety reasons. It is highly recommended that passengers take out full comprehensive travel insurance for all tours and travel arrangements.

Do you have Medical Issues:

Please note if you have any medical issues you will need to go see your local GP where you live and get them to write you a letter on the practice letterhead signed and dated by your doctor that you are “Fit to dive” If you have one of these letters then all dive companies in Cairns will take you diving. Please note these letters are only valid for three months from their date of issue.

Departs: Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturday Only!

Inclusions: All meals, morning & afternoon tea, fresh fruit snacks (special diets can be catered for with advance notice), fresh linen and bath towels, wetsuits and lycra suits, snorkeling equipment, guided snorkel tours.

Is Coral Sea Dreaming Right for You?

Coral Sea Dreaming is an active, adventure-style overnight sailing trip designed for guests who can swim and are keen to snorkel, dive, or try scuba diving for the first time. The focus of this experience is time in the water and life on the reef, so it is not suited to non-swimmers, very young children, or guests with significant mobility limitations.

For safety reasons, all divers are required to complete a medical questionnaire onboard, and diving activities are assessed by the onboard dive instructor. If there are any concerns about safety, the crew may restrict or cancel diving activities. We strongly recommend checking dive medical requirements before booking if you have any pre-existing medical conditions.

Coral Sea Dreaming is a true sailing vessel, and whenever conditions allow, the crew will raise the sails for a genuine sailing experience. As with all reef tours, itineraries and sailing conditions are weather dependent, and trips may be altered or cancelled if conditions are unsafe.

Most dietary requirements can be catered for with advance notice. Please let us know at least 48 hours before departure so the crew can plan meals accordingly.
