If you already have your Open Water Dive License and want to kick it up a notch on the Great Barrier Reef, then this course is perfect for you.

The Cairns Dive Centre Advanced Dive Course is designed to increase your confidence and enhance your scuba diving skills, allowing even greater underwater exploration and enjoyment. Core dive skills you’ll learn during this two days/one-night course include: deep diving; underwater navigation; night diving. An additional two skills can be learnt, with a choice between: search and recovery diving; boat diving; underwater naturalist diving; digital underwater photography diving. The best part? You get to experience a tropical island and an outer reef experience.

Cairns Dive Centre has been teaching people to dive in Cairns for over 35 years. Locally owned and operated, Cairns Dive Centre specialise in PADI dive courses. What is PADI? It’s an internationally recognised certification, which allows you to scuba dive anywhere in the world, within the limits of your license (see the Diving Info tab below).

This is a two-day course, one day on Fitzroy Island and one day on the Great Barrier Reef on Cairns Dive Centre’s day boat, Sunkist, with an overnight on Fitzroy Island in a Bungalow near the beach (Share accommodation). The Advanced Course price includes Cairns and Great Barrier Reef transfers; accommodation in a Buttery Bungalow (shared accommodation), lunch on Day 4 on the boat; all diving equipment hire and instruction. Inclusions: TWIN Share Accommodation at Fitzroy Island in the Butterfly Bungalows, Air Fills, Bed Linen, Fresh Hot Water Showers, All quality diving and snorkelling equipment like Snorkel, Fins, Mask, Wetsuit, BCD, Regs, Dive Computer. (Lunch on the second day is the only meal option included). You can bring food over with you to the island or buy from the local shop at the island or eat out at the resort restaurant at your own charge).

Extras: (Pay Later) The $25.00 per person per day at sea for Fuel, Port & Reef charge is payable on the day of travel.

Starting daily, this is a very itinerary friendly option that includes all instruction (with professional dive instructors), dive manuals and equipment, transfers to the Great Barrier Reef. A sample itinerary is below for your reference: please note that schedules, dive sites and the number of dives planned is subject to change, pending weather and external conditions.

DAY 1 – CAIRNS TO FITZROY ISLAND:

Cairns Dive Centre day boat Sunkist departs Cairns at 8:00 am it takes 45 minutes to travel to Fitzroy Island. You will complete two (2) x training dives plus one (1) x night dive on the first day. You will sleep at the Island in the Butterfly Bungalows, these are TWIN share accommodation with private bathrooms.

DAY 2 – FITZROY ISLAND TO GREAT BARRIER REEF TO CAIRNS:

Today you are out diving on the Great Barrier Reef with the boat Sunkist. Here you will enjoy two (2) x training dives on the outer reef systems. Lunch is also included on this day. At the end of the day, you will return back to Cairns by 4:30 pm.

Remember to continue your diver education you do need to be currently medically fit with no asthma and not be taking any prescription medication. PADI recommends allowing up to 24 hours after diving before flying in an airplane.

You must have an Open Water Dive Certification before you can book the PADI Advance Dive Course. Cairns Dive Centre will ask to see evidence of this, bring your existing Dive License and a copy of your current Log Book. The course includes a total of 5 scuba dives. There will be time for recreational snorkeling after your dives.

The PADI Advanced Dive Course is internationally recognized. At Cairns Dive Centre, the course includes three core modules (deep diving; navigation diving; night diving) and then a choice of two other modules (choosing between search and recovery diving; boat diving; underwater naturalist diving; digital underwater photography diving).

Therefore, on completion of the core modules, you will have the theoretical knowledge and practical skills you need to dive anywhere in the world to a maximum depth of 30-meters when diving with a buddy. In addition, you will have learned to navigate under the water (always helpful when finding the boat) and the core skills and techniques required for night diving and diving with limited visibility.

You will also have learned other skills, depending on what specialty modules you selected with your PADI Instructor. At completion, you are not certified for solo diving you will still always need to dive in buddy pairs for safety.

All dive training is completed at sea, on the Great Barrier Reef and all manuals, equipment and instruction are included in the course price.
