Check-in and boarding for the Cairns Dive Centre day tour on M.V. Reef-Kist starts at 7am on the boat, which is moored on E-Finger at Cairns’ Marlin Marina (adjacent to the Pier Shopping Centre and Salt House restaurant). Welcome tea and coffee is served on boarding, with departure from Cairns at 7.30am. On its way to the Great Barrier Reef, M.V. Cairns Dive Centre visits open water reef sites, which means the reefs are in the open ocean (rather than being close to an island, pontoon or sand cay) and can have currents. However, the waters are sheltered within the Great Barrier Reef and flotation / buoyancy devices are available. This day tour is recommended to people who are comfortable swimming in the open ocean. All equipment is included in the ticket price and tuition is provided on board, for those new to snorkelling. Access to the water is via submerged stairs at the back of the boat.
