Tropic Wings STAR – Kuranda Day Tour – Skyrail & Kuranda Scenic Railway:

After your Great Barrier Reef adventures, there’s no better way to slow down, breathe out, and experience another side of Tropical North Queensland than with a journey into the world-heritage rainforest above Cairns. Our Kuranda Day Tour – Skyrail & Kuranda Scenic Railway is a stunning change of pace—floating silently above the rainforest canopy, exploring lush boardwalks deep inside Barron Gorge National Park, and winding through misty mountains and waterfalls on one of the world’s most beautiful railway journeys. This is your chance to trade bubbles for treetops, swap coral gardens for emerald valleys, and enjoy a day immersed in the quiet magic of the Wet Tropics. Kuranda Village adds its own charm with markets, local artists, wildlife encounters (extra costs for Birdworld, Butterfly Sanctuary, and Koala Gardens pay at entrance), river walks, and the relaxed atmosphere that makes this rainforest haven so special.

Bus Pick Up Cairns Hotel: 8:00 am

  • See the mighty Barron Falls from the brand-new “The Edge” lookout, featuring a glass floor and uninterrupted waterfall views.

  • Enjoy free time in Kuranda Village, home to vibrant markets, local artisans, wildlife sanctuaries (extra cost), quirky cafés, and rainforest-fringed river walks.

  • Ride the iconic Kuranda Scenic Railway—a spectacular journey through hand-carved tunnels, towering bridges and mountain ranges.

  • A perfect post-diving day: relaxed, scenic, and soaked in natural beauty.

Why We Love It:

After days exploring the Great Barrier Reef, this tour is the perfect “reset button.” You get a gentler kind of wonder—ancient rainforest, cool mountain air, waterfalls tumbling through deep gorges, and wildlife calling from the treetops. The contrast between the smooth glide of Skyrail and the nostalgic charm of the Kuranda Scenic Railway is magic. Kuranda Village itself is a colourful mix of rainforest paths, local culture, handmade crafts, and good coffee.
It’s simply one of the most beautiful ways to discover the other half of Cairns’ natural world.

What to Expect:

This is a full but relaxing day with a nice balance of adventure and downtime. Expect breathtaking views from above the canopy, peaceful walks through World Heritage rainforest, and time to explore Kuranda at your own pace. You’ll see waterfalls, deep valleys, tumbling rapids, and the dramatic Barron Gorge. Depending on your interests, you can visit wildlife attractions, wander the markets, or simply enjoy a calm riverside stroll. The Kuranda Scenic Railway return journey is a slow, story-rich ride through tunnels, bridges and mountain ranges—a beautiful end to your rainforest experience.
