Reef Fleet Terminal Cairns — Where to Check In for Great Barrier Reef Tours
We get asked this every single day: “Where do we check in for our reef boat?”
In Cairns, the answer is almost always the same — the Reef Fleet Terminal at Cairns Marlin Marina.
It’s the main check-in hall for most Great Barrier Reef day trips (and many liveaboards).
Arrive: We recommend 45–60 minutes before departure so you’re not rushed.

Use the map below for directions. If you’re taking a taxi/Uber, set the destination to
“Reef Fleet Terminal, 1 Spence Street”.
Step-by-step: how check-in works
- Walk into the Reef Fleet Terminal building and look for your operator’s counter.
- Check in at the counter to collect your boarding pass / wristband (requirements vary by operator).
- Listen for boarding calls or follow staff directions to your wharf/finger at the marina.
- Board the vessel and settle in — you’re off to the Great Barrier Reef.
Always follow the check-in details on your booking confirmation — and if you’re unsure, message us and we’ll confirm it for your exact tour.
Getting there (walk, taxi, parking)
- Taxi/Uber: Set destination to Reef Fleet Terminal, 1 Spence Street (Cairns Marlin Marina).
- Walking: If you’re staying in central Cairns, it’s usually an easy walk toward the marina end of the Esplanade (near The Pier / Shangri-La area).
- Parking: There’s paid parking nearby (including at/near The Pier precinct). Prices change, so treat signage as the source of truth on the day.
Why we’re so particular about check-in
Reef days run on tight timelines — tides, weather windows, and long travel distances offshore.
When you check in early, you’re not rushed, the crew can do everything properly, and you start your reef day calm and organised.
Our team has done 758+ dives on the Great Barrier Reef, and we’ve seen how much smoother the day goes when guests arrive early and know exactly where they’re headed.
Liveaboard Check-In in Cairns
Most Cairns liveaboards also check in at the Reef Fleet Terminal — so if you've booked a liveaboard dive trip, the same advice applies: head to 1 Spence Street and look for your operator's counter. That said, a small number of liveaboard vessels use a separate wharf or require an office check-in before boarding. Your booking confirmation will always specify if this is the case. If you're not sure, just message us with your tour name and departure date and we'll confirm exactly where you need to be — and when.
