Check-in for Tusa is directly at the boat, which is moored at A-Finger at Cairns’ Marlin Marina, adjacent to the Reef Fleet Terminal. Check-in commences from 7.40am with a scheduled 8am departure time. Complimentary tea, coffee and biscuits are served on arrival and detailed (trip, equipment, snorkelling and dive) briefings are provided by the crew, on the way to the reef.

Travel time is approximately 90-minutes and you arrive at your first reef site at around 9.30am. Plenty of time for snorkelling and diving before the lunch buffet is served from 12pm. During lunch, Tusa moves to its second reef location for more in-water activities. T6 departs the reef around 3pm, arriving back into Cairns at 4.30pm.

Diving the reef is our passion, but sharing it is our obsession. Tusa Dive are the diving specialists with more than 20 years experience offering diving day tours to Cairns’ Great Barrier Reef. T6 offer up to three (3) scuba dives per day, at two different reef locations. Suitable for certified scuba divers and those wanting to try an introductory dive (no experience necessary).

Tusa Dive provides their guests with top quality equipment, wetsuits and dive computers. The customer service is second to none, with the crew even helping you to put on and take off your fins, for maximum on-board comfort.

INTRODUCTORY DIVES: No experience necessary. Tusa Dive offers you the chance to complete a PADI Discover Scuba Course, with all tuition and equipment included in the introductory dive price. You must be at least 12 years of age to participate in this and detailed safety and procedure briefings are provided. Maximum dive depth is 10m and there is a ratio of four introductory divers per dive instructor. These guided dives are a great introduction to the Great Barrier Reef.

CERTIFIED DIVING: Tusa Dive provides complete tour flexibility, with a range of certified diving packages. Choose between one, two and three certified dives with full equipment hire and dive computer, or just tanks and weights. Divers can choose between guided (extra cost) and unguided diving. Guided dives are charged at $10 per person, per dive (in addition to the dive tour price). Guided dives are great for a first time visit to the Great Barrier Reef and the maximum dive depth will be 18m. Unguided divers must go with a buddy (bring your own or get matched up with someone on the boat) and will receive equipment and dive site briefings on the boat. Water entry is via the lowered in-water platform on the back deck, for maximum diver comfort. You will be required to show your Divers License and complete Dive Medical paperwork on board, prior to diving. Using the standard itinerary timings, your first dive will be around 10am, the second dive at 11.30am and the final dive around 1.30pm.

All of the Tusa Dive reef sites are open water sites, which means they are coral reefs located in the ocean (with no nearby islands, pontoons or sand cays). The reefs rise from the ocean floor to plateau just metres from the surface, making them excellent for snorkelling, especially for those that are confident / comfortable swimmers. All snorkelers are provided with ‘diver’ quality masks, snorkels, booties and fins, as well as a choice of lycra or wet suits (pending the season). Flotation devices are also provided free of charge. Each Tusa Dive day tour includes a thorough safety and environmental briefing before you enter the water and a guided snorkel tour with a professional dive master. Access to and from the water is from a submerged platform at the rear of the boat.

Staghorn Corals spawning en masse

Once a year, the over 400 different types of Great Barrier Reef corals reproduce en masse, in an event known as Coral Spawning. Coral Spawning always occurs at night, with the release of the corals’ eggs and sperm tied to the moon’s presence, light and lunar cycles. In 2011, we witnessed the magic of Coral Spawning for the first time, with Cairns operator Tusa Dive. It was amazing!
