Passions of Paradise has a brand new purpose built dive snorkel sailboat (Passions III) built March 2017. Established in 1989 Passions of Paradise are a Queensland and Australian Tourism Award winner (2009) in the category of Adventure Tourism and hold Advanced Ecotourism Accreditation through Ecotourism Australia. This is a locally owned and operated Cairns company, which is committed to providing a quality dive, snorkel and sailing experience to the Great Barrier Reef.

Guests travel to two amazing Great Barrier Reef destinations. Locations are chosen each day from a selection of over 24 moorings on the outer Great Barrier Reef some of which include Hastings reef (1770, Coral Gardens, Turtle Bommie, Stepping Stones), Norman reef, Paradise reef, Long bommie, Milne reef, Moore reef and much more! Each day Passions of Paradise will tailor the day’s itinerary to the weather conditions all on a brand new custom-designed 25m sailing catamaran.

All reef sites visited are open water reefs, with coral gardens rising from the ocean floor to just meters beneath the surface. Water entry is by stairs from the back deck of the boat. For more experienced divers, Passions have a dedicated dive tender to allow access to deeper waters. Reef locations offer a selection of drift dives, wall dives and swim throughs with the added bonus of complimentary dive guides available each day.

The Passions vessel is one of the largest commercial sailing catamarans in Australia and was purpose built to provide a fast (top speed of 16 knots), comfortable ride to the Great Barrier Reef. It has an air-conditioned interior saloon and exterior sun decks. Activities available include snorkeling, introductory and certified scuba diving (more information on these activities in the tabs below), glass bottom boat tours, swimming and sunbathing. A free 10-minute scuba diving demonstration is included in the price, as is a guided snorkel tour, all snorkeling equipment, morning and afternoon tea. Lunch is a tropical buffet of hot and cold dishes including prawns and fresh fruit. Vegetarians are catered for daily and allergies can be catered for on request. Glass bottom boat tours are available as an optional extra.

Introductory diving on the Great Barrier Reef with Passions of Paradise sail trip

As soon as I hit the water and started breathing underwater I knew this was one of the most exiting experiences of my life, the world around you changes into a silent sea of bubbles, you feel like you have been detached from the world above. Breathing was actually easier in scuba gear than snorkelling. I hung onto a rope connected to the two hulls of the boat, it was here the dive instructor made sure we knew how to clear our mask and regulator if they filled with water or came off, we then sank one meter down to a second rope where we just seemed to hang in suspended animation, above us we could see all the snorkelers thrashing and kicking around but down here the ocean was very different.... read full review
