Great Adventures, a part of the Quicksilver Group, provides full and half day tours from Cairns to Green Island. There are three (3) departure and return times for the half day tours, which means this trip can be accommodated into most itineraries. Green Island offers visitors a plethora of things to see and do including swimming and snorkelling from the beach, taking self-guided rainforest boardwalk tours, visiting Marineland Melanesia and as a guest of Great Adventures, you are even welcome to use the resort’s exclusive day pool.

The half day islander tours are sold in three categories, but you can customise to suit your itinerary. HD1 provides over 2 hours island time (departs Cairns 8.30am and departs Green Island 12pm) | HD2 provides over 3 hours island time (departs Cairns 10.30am and departs Green Island 2.30pm) | HD3 provides over 2 hours island time (departs Cairns 1pm and departs Green Island 4.30pm).

All Great Adventures Green Island tours include return transfers from Cairns to Green Island, aboard their fast, air-conditioned catamarans, tea and coffee and choice of glass bottom boat tour or snorkelling equipment. Snorkelling can be done from the beach and we’ve got some tips on the best Green Island snorkelling locations.

Why choose Green Island for your half day tour? Apart from the fact it’s so flexible, Green Island is a great half-day destination. At just 12 hectares this small sand cay island can easily be explored on a tight timeframe. Take in its sandy beaches with offshore fringing reef and seagrass beds and wander the rainforest boardwalks with interpretive signage.

Check-in for the Great Adventures Green Island half day tours is at their counter, inside the Reef Fleet Terminal. You should aim to check-in at least 15-minutes prior to your booked departure time, to collect boarding passes and wander down to the boat. Complimentary tea and coffee are served on boarding (and packed up prior to departure) and the transfer time over to Green Island is approximately 45-minutes. There’s inside and outside seating.

Time on the island all depends on what half-day package you have booked. To return to Cairns, the Great Adventures catamaran will be moored at the Green Island jetty. You should be ready at the jetty approximately 15-minutes before your booked departure time.

You cannot scuba dive on any of the half day tours. To try scuba diving at Green Island (introductory or certified) you will need to book a full day tour.

Green Island has fringing reefs and offshore sea grass beds. Snorkelling can be done directly from beach, making it ideal for those who are not confident in the water. The waters surrounding the island are relatively shallow and somewhat protected from ocean currents. You can choose snorkelling equipment as a part of your half day tour and hire lycra or wetsuits on the island (if required). Click here for tips on the best Green Island snorkelling locations.
