Coral Sea Dreaming offers low number, overnight sailing adventures from Cairns to the Great Barrier Reef for divers and snorkelers (for more information on these activities, please see below tabs). These trips depart every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday and are a great way to explore the wonders of the reef in splendid isolation. Divers can enjoy up to five (5) scuba dives, including a night dive and early morning dive, which is one of our favourite times to explore the Great Barrier Reef.

With 21 exclusive moorings on nine (9) different reef systems (Norman, Hastings, Breaking Patches, Upolu Cay, Michaelmas, Flynn, Miln, Thetford and Moore), Coral Sea Dreaming will choose the best locations to maximise your experience, pending the weather and conditions. With passenger numbers limited to just 12 people, you are certainly escaping the crowds when you choose this as your liveaboard option.

Coral Sea Dreaming is a 16m steel ketch, which has been uniquely designed for charter work. Accommodating a maximum of 12 passengers and 3 crew, there is a range of cabins including 2 x single bunks, 1 x quad share, 2 x private cabins and 1 x family cabin (1 x double and 2 x single). There’s plenty of space to relax and of course there are full toilet facilities, a hot water shower and a freshwater shower at the dive deck. Linen and bath towels are supplied: bring your own dive towel.

All meals are included in the tour price, as is morning and afternoon tea and a constant supply of fresh fruit snacks. Snorkelling equipment, wetsuits and lycra suits are all included and guided snorkel tours are available on request. Diving is an optional extra and is available for certified divers and those wanting to try it for the first time with an introductory dive. Please note this tour is not suitable for children under the age of 4 years.

DAY 1. Highlights: Starting your overnight sailing adventure! Visiting two (2) different reef sites for snorkelling and diving and for divers, the option of taking a night dive. Snorkelers can try an introductory scuba dive (additional cost). Watching the sun set and sleeping on the Coral Sea.

MORE DETAIL: Your Coral Sea Dreaming adventure begins by boarding the ketch, moored at Cairns’ Marlin Marina, at 7.45am. Once everyone is aboard we make our way to the Great Barrier Reef. Today you will visit two reef sites, spending the night at the second one. This allows divers to orientate themselves with the second site, prior to taking a night dive (should they choose to do so).? Actual reef sites will be chosen on the day, to maximise your experience, pending tide and conditions.

End the day with a glorious sunset over the Coral Sea and delicious dinner aboard Coral Sea Dreaming. If you wish to have a few alcoholic drinks, then please note these are BYO (bring your own). Tea and coffee are included the tour price.

DAY 2. Highlights: Start your day with an early morning swim or dive on the Great Barrier Reef, there’s nothing quite like it! Enjoy breakfast with absolute waterfront views and visit two more reef sites, before returning to Cairns.

MORE DETAIL: Your day begins when you want it too, but there’s nothing quite like watching the sun rise over the Coral Sea. This is a great time of day for snorkelling and diving and there is a high chance of seeing turtles, reef sharks and cruising pelagic fish. Today you will visit two more reef sites, with plenty of time to explore, snorkel and dive. Lunch is served prior to departure and in the afternoon, we hoist the sails to return to Cairns. Arrive into port around 4.30pm.

Coral Sea Dreaming offers a choice of certified diving and introductory diving. Certified divers can choose between guided and unguided dives. Divers have the chance to take up to four (4) day dives and one (1) night dive during this 2 day / 1 night trip, which visits several reef locations and dive sites. All equipment and dive briefings are included in the dive price.

INTRODUCTORY DIVING: This is a great opportunity to try scuba diving for the first time (no experience necessary). To try an introductory dive you will need to be at least 12 years old and pass a dive medical on board the boat. All equipment and briefings are provided and included in the cost, as is a dive guide. Coral Sea Dreaming is also one of the very few boats to be licensed by Scuba Schools International to offer introductory night dives! To participate in one of these, you will have to have done an introductory day dive first (on board Coral Sea Dreaming).

CERTIFIED DIVING: This trip is suitable for certified divers of all experience levels. Coral Sea Dreaming is licensed to visit 21 exclusive moorings at 9 different reef systems. You have the chance to do up to four (4) day dives and one (1) night dive. Choose between guided or unguided diving, but there is no solo diving. If you are not travelling with a dive buddy, this is no problem; you will be paired up with another diver on board. Equipment and dive site briefings (and guides if you choose) are all included in the dive price.

Dive site depth varies anywhere from 6 – 36m. Certified divers can dive to the maximum depth of their experience and certification and will be required to show evidence of their certification: through current dive licenses and log book.

Coral Sea Dreaming is perfect for snorkelers who are confident swimmers. The ketch visits several outer Great Barrier Reef sites and moors very close to the reef, meaning it’s only a small swim to the reef and its amazing coral gardens. That being said, it is open water swimming and water depth varies from a few metres (when you over the corals) to up to 36m. Snorkel site briefings are provided and flotation vests are also provided if you would prefer.

All snorkelling equipment (mask, fins and snorkel) are included as are wetsuits / lycra suits. Prescription masks are available with 24 hours notice. There is also the option to try introductory diving (no experience necessary) while on board. Added bonus: get to see the sun set and rise over the Coral Sea and Great Barrier Reef, it’s simply stunning!

Found Nemo - Hannah + Chris

Fab trip! Overnight on the coral sea dreaming boat was great, very comfortable, good food and nice small group. Dive sites were brilliant, saw loads including tonnes of reef sharks + turtles. Small numbers on the boat made for a much friendlier atmosphere and meant we had fantastic moorings. Highly recommended! ... travelled on 28/11/2013
