A sample itinerary is below for your reference: please note that schedules, dive sites and number of dives planned is subject to change, pending weather and external conditions.

DAY 1 – CAIRNS TO GREAT BARRIER REEF:

Cairns Dive Centre provides free pick-ups for everyone staying in the Cairns city area, which start at 6.45am (Northern Beaches transfers are also available, but will be charged). First stop is Cairns’ Marlin Marina, where you will board the Cairns Dive Centre day boat, the 17.5m ReefKist. After a quick stop at Fitzroy Island, you arrive at the liveaboard boat around 9.45am. The passenger transfer is really easy, just stepping from one boat to the other.

Once aboard Kangaroo Explorer, you are given a welcome briefing and tour of the ship. You are also allocated your cabins and meet your PADI Advanced Dive Course instructor. A quick buffet lunch is served (at 11.30am), with time for two training dives this afternoon. Dinner is served at 6pm and then it’s time for a night dive. Afterwards, you can choose to relax in the air-conditioned saloon, or just retire to your cabin. Don’t have a late night; it’s an early start in the morning!

DAY 2 – GREAT BARRIER REEF:

It’s a 5.30am wake-up call today and there’s nothing quite like starting fresh with a scuba dive on the Great Barrier Reef. After your first dive, it’s breakfast time, with another dive before and then after lunch, and a night dive this evening. During the day, Kangaroo Explorer will move around the Great Barrier Reef, allowing you to explore several different dive sites during your stay at sea. Your PADI Instructor will provide briefings and instruction throughout the day too: exact times will be confirmed with you, on board Kangaroo Explorer.

DAY 3 – GREAT BARRIER REEF TO CAIRNS:

Another early start today and time to complete your PADI Advanced Dive Course and training dives. There’s time for three (3) more scuba dives today, before lunch is served at 12pm and you transfer back to the day tour boat around 2.45pm, for the return journey to Cairns. The trip back is via Fitzroy Island (you can not get off the boat at the island) and you will arrive back into Cairns around 4.30pm, with transfers back to your inner-city accommodation. This completes your PADI Advanced Dive Course.

You must have an Open Water Dive Certification to book the Advance Adventurer Dive Course. Cairns Dive Centre will ask to see evidence of this, being your existing Dive License and a copy of your current Log Book. The course includes a total of 10 scuba dives, including two (2) night dives. There will be time for recreational snorkelling, or relaxing in the air-conditioned interior or on the exterior sun deck, during this course.

The PADI Advanced Dive Course is internationally recognised. At Cairns Dive Centre, the course includes three core modules (deep diving; navigation diving; night diving) and then a choice of two other modules (choosing between search and recovery diving; boat diving; underwater naturalist diving; digital underwater photography diving).

Therefore, on completion of the core modules, you will have the theoretical knowledge and practical skills you need to dive anywhere in the world to a maximum depth of 30m, when diving with a buddy. In addition, you will have learnt to navigate under the water (always helpful when finding the boat) and the core skills and techniques required for night diving / diving with limited visibility. You will also have learnt other skills, depending on what speciality modules you selected with your PADI Instructor. At completion you are not certified for solo diving.

All dive training is completed at sea, on the Great Barrier Reef and all manuals, equipment and instruction is included in the course price.
