Big Cat Green Island Reef Cruises offers half day tours to Green Island, with two convenient departure and return times. This allows you to tailor your tour to suit your itinerary, with morning and afternoon tour times available. The half day tours provide up to two (2) hours to explore Green Island. The timing is to depart at 9am and return at 12.45pm, or depart at 1pm and return at 5pm.
Half day tours are provided aboard Big Cat’s ‘Reef Rocket’, a high speed, 24m catamaran which has 45-minute travel time to and from Cairns to Green Island. Green Island is the only Great Barrier Reef island to have tropical rainforest, which can be explored on shaded boardwalks with interpretive signage.
On the half day tours, there is time for guests to explore the rainforest and swim / snorkel from Green Island’s sandy beaches. Please note that most of the beaches are surrounded by sea grass beds, home to Green Sea Turtles, with the best Green Island snorkelling around the jetty area.
Green Island has a resort and Big Cat guests can utilise the licensed bar at the island to purchase hot and cold beverages. There is also a kiosk and restaurant on the island, which sell snacks and meals. Alternatively, take your own refreshments with you.
Owned and operated by a local Cairns family company, the half day Green Island tours include either snorkelling equipment or a glass bottom boat tour as standard, with guests able to upgrade their tour to include both activities and a semi-submersible tour at extra cost. All details are provided in the price table (below).

Remember to try any form of scuba diving everyone needs to be medically fit with no asthma and not be taking any prescription medication. PADI recommends allowing up to 24 hours after diving before flying in an airplane. Some tour operators have a no refund policy for any dives not completed for whatever reason. Please note the art of freediving is not permitted on any of the day boats or liveaboard dive boats from Cairns & Port Douglas. With the high instances of (shallow water blackout) companies do not allow this for safety reasons.
Do you have Medical Issues:
Please note if you have any medical issues you will need to go see your local GP where you live and get them to write you a letter on the practice letterhead signed and dated by your doctor that you are “Fit to dive” If you have one of these letters then all dive companies in Cairns will take you diving. Please note these letters are only valid for three months from their date of issue.
Inclusions: Cruise to Green Island aboard “Reef Rocket” a modern catamaran, A half day reef cruises allows 2 hours on Green Island (departs 1pm & arrives back in Cairns at 5pm),Snorkelling demonstration & reef presentation en route to Green Island, Use of Big Cat vessel during time at island as an air-conditioned base.

HDAM – Depart Cairns at 9:00 am and Return to Cairns at 1:00 pm
HDPM – Depart Cairns at 1:00 pm and Return to Cairns at 5:00 pm
